He will be joined by Juerg Bandle, Senior Vice President, Kuehne + Nagel Inc. to present "Applying Google Ideas in Ocean Transportation: Search-Based Advertising Applied to Sailing Schedules
Prior to the January 2007 launch of OceanSchedules.com, the ocean container industry lacked a comprehensive, global, public website to consolidate the scheduled container services of all carriers in one place. OceanSchedules.com addresses this need and provides a free site for shippers and forwarders to find containerized sailing schedules that are global, comprehensive and interactive. All data is provided by carriers electronically, insuring accuracy and timeliness.
As of September 17, 2007, the site had nine million voyages to and from ports all over the world, with coverage for many inland points as well. At the end of October 2007, the site will be available in English, Spanish, simplified Chinese and Portuguese, with 25 of the world's top ocean carriers listing their schedules on OceanSchedules.com and registered users representing over $18 billion of annual purchasing of ocean transportation.
"The vision of OceanSchedules.com is to provide the most convenient and comprehensive online source for sailing schedules," said Harry Sangree. "OceanSchedules.com is an important development in the coordination of ocean transportation and the collaboration between shippers, carriers and the ocean-transportation infrastructure."
"We are honored to be a finalist in this prestigious competition. Innovation is a way to deliver value to the industry and we have worked hard to apply many types of innovation in the OceanSchedules.com project. I am eager to talk about this to the CSCMP audience," said Sangree.
Facts about OceanSchedules.com:
The site receives electronic voyage information directly from carriers representing over 80 percent of the slot capacity of the top-25 global carriers. A number of these carriers are currently enhancing their data feeds so that the number of active voyage records is expected to increase significantly during 2007.
The technology used in the site allows users to interact with the data in ways that are not possible with other tools. Real-time filtering, sorting, drill-down on large amounts of near-real-time data, and no frustrating 'hourglass' while a web-page repaints, are some of the sites key innovations.
The audience OceanSchedules.com attracts is truly global with registrants from over 116 countries worldwide.
Advertisers are also embracing the new site. Advertisers include carriers, forwarders, and port-related companies that want to deliver a marketing message to the users of the site. A number of advertisers are seeing click-thru rates of over 1 percent on their campaigns - indicating a strong level of engagement with a highly targeted audience.
